Hurt
Normally music videos are crap; self aggrandizing and meaningless images to sell music. Every once in a while a video shows some real depth or tells a great story.
I came across this video by Johnny Cash. It was his final recording and final video. He covers the song Hurt by Trent Reznor. I am stuck by the brutal force of the honest introspection. Not because he wrote the song, but because of the emotion and ownership in the way he sings it and the video that he put with the song. He knows he is near the end of his life and is putting his own summary on his life and accomplishments. I am reminded of the Bible book, Lamentations, and Solomon’s views on his life and what was important.
I post this on Easter because of the context that he portrays his life and his realization of the role of the Savior. This video is brutally powerful. Let me know what you think.

I read that after Reznor heard this he said something to the effect of “It’s his song now”. Even he realized that it would be Cash’s version that made the song immortal.

We played this video one day at LifeBridge. It is indeed a very powerful reflection and a solemn reminder that the things we accomplish and acquire in life are meaningless if we don’t wrestle with the questions about God and a relationship with him. Thanks for posting this.
